    Kaiser Wilhelm Museum

    The foundation for the Kunstmuseen Krefeld was laid with the opening of the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum (KWM) in 1897.

    Haus Lange Haus Esters

    The two villas Haus Lange and Haus Esters were built in 1927/28 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Haus Lange has been part of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld since 1955 and Haus Esters since 1981. Since then they have been a venue for the presentation of contemporary art and design. -- Haus Esters is closed until May 4 due to exhibition preparations --

    Collection

    From Art Nouveau to ZERO, from Claude Monet to Gerhard Richter - the collection of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld today comprises around 24,000 works of fine and applied art from the late Middle Ages to the present.

    March, 21 Utopia-Night

    Gerd Zillner, Director of the Austrian Frederick and Lillian Kiesler Private Foundation, will give a lecture on Frederick Kiesler's Magic Architecture at the last Utopia Night as part of the exhibition Visionary Spaces. The event takes place in the K+ Café in the KWM and starts at 7 pm. Museum admission only.

    We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition Partly Furnished, Excellent View, which for the first time deals with the important tradition of site-specific art in Haus Lange and Haus Esters. With works and projects by: Celine Berger, BLESS, Christo, Jasmina Cibic, Bogomir Ecker, Elmgreen & Dragset, Hans Haacke, Haus-Rucker-Co, Yves Klein, Karin Kneffel, Claes Oldenburg, Andreas Schmitten, Andrea Zittel a.o. Admission is free!

    Experience the museum live with SWK AG and Sparkasse Krefeld

    Under the motto Experience the museum live, the Kunstmuseen Krefeld offer a varied program with music, guided tours, performances, workshops and much more every 1st Thursday of the month - with free admission!

    New: Edition by raumlaborberlin

    The Kunstmuseen Krefeld present the first edition by the renowned architecture collective raumlaborberlin. The exclusive screen print, inspired by the installation Schnittmusterarchiv from the exhibition Visionäre Räume. Walter Pichler meets Friedrich Kiesler in a display by raumlaborberlin (until March 30 at the KWM), is available exclusively from the Kunstmuseen Krefeld. Also newly published in the museum shop is the supplement to the catalog with an extensive interview with raumlaborberlin.

    Wall painting by Sarah Morris successfully purchased

    Thanks to the Friends of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld e.V. and various supporters, including the state of NRW, the mural Society is Abstract, Culture is Concrete, created especially for Haus Esters, has been secured for the collection.

    Please note: Haus Esters is currently closed for exhibition renovations (until May 4).

    "Wirtshaus" remains in Krefeld

    We are delighted that the painting Wirtshaus (1917) by Heinrich Campendonk will remain in our collection thanks to a fair and equitable solution with the heirs. Thanks to the support of the federal and state governments and the Kulturstiftung der Länder, it has been secured for the Krefeld collection and preserved for the public. It is currently on display at the KWM together with other works by Campendonk and other artists such as Heinrich Nauen, Helmuth Macke and Thorn Prikker.

    UtopiaLab at Studio 2

    The new UtopiaLab in the Studio 2/KreativLabor at KWM has opened. In the context of the exhibition Visionary Spaces. Walter Pichler meets Friedrich Kiesler in a display by raumlaborberlin, museum visitors young and old can contribute to the design of a utopian structure that will grow beyond the studio for the duration of the exhibition!

    Art in the schoolyard: Play For Today

    As part of the exhibition Museum grenzenlos, the work Play for Today by artist Céline Condorelli from the collection of the FRAC Grand Large - Hauts-de-France was realized for five years in the playground of the Marienschule in Krefeld. The artwork addresses the discrimination of people based on their gender in sport and raises general questions about equality and fairness.

    Kaiser Wilhelm Museum

    Sich einbringen, kreative Ideen verwirklichen und eigene Kunstwerke in einer Ausstellung präsentieren.
    Einmal pro Wochen treffen sich junge Kunstfans im KWM und entwickeln zusammen mit anderen Jugendlichen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten in Malerei, Zeichnung und Skulptur für ihre kreativen Visionen. Eine kleine Werkschau zum Ende des Kurses rundet die Museumserfahrung ab.
    Der Jugendkunstclub ist ein Angebot im Rahmen des Förderprogramms des Landes Kulturrucksack NRW. Mehr Informationen unter www.kulturrucksack.nrw.de.

    Einmal im Monat lädt das KWM unter Anleitung der Theaterplastikerin und Kunstvermittlerin Sina Müllender zu einem Keramikworkshop für Erwachsene ein. Das Angebot richtet sich an Anfänger:innen wie Fortgeschrittene. Man lernt Aufbautechniken kennen sowie das Arbeiten mit unterschiedlichen Glasuren. Die Materialien werden gestellt.

    Menschen im Museum—wenn wir diejenigen meinen, die in den Kunstwerken dargestellt sind, so handelt es sich doch um eine recht diverse Klientel. Da finden sich Heilige und Menschen ohne Obdach, Schwerverbrecher, Krankenschwestern und amerikanische Senatoren oder Menschen im jüdischen Viertel von Amsterdam zu Beginn des 20. Jahr­ underts. In den Führungen begegnen wir ihnen und vielen mehr über große Zeiträume hinweg. Menschliche Konterfeis fordern in den Workshops die Kreativität der Besucher:innen heraus und das K+ Café im KWM by Flavia genießen wir kulinarisch und musikalisch.

    „Museum live erleben“, so lautet das Motto unserer beliebten Veranstaltungsreihe KunstImPuls an jedem ersten Donnerstag im Monat, möglich gemacht durch die Unterstützung der SWK AG und der Sparkasse Krefeld.
