    Kaiser Wilhelm Museum

    The foundation for the Kunstmuseen Krefeld was laid with the opening of the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum (KWM) in 1897.

    Haus Lange Haus Esters

    The two villas Haus Lange and Haus Esters were built in 1927/28 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Haus Lange has been part of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld since 1955 and Haus Esters since 1981. Since then they have been a venue for the presentation of contemporary art and design.

    Collection

    From Art Nouveau to ZERO, from Claude Monet to Gerhard Richter - the collection of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld today comprises around 24,000 works of fine and applied art from the late Middle Ages to the present.

    Spotlight

    Isamu Noguchi (1904, Los Angeles, US – 1988, New York, US) Akari, 1951

    Starting in 1951, American designer Isamu Noguchi created the Akari lamp series—lightweight, foldable lamps with a sculptural character. Noguchi drew inspiration from the traditional craftsmanship from the Japanese city of Gifu: to this day, Akari lamps are handcrafted from mulberry paper and bamboo. The term “Akari” stands for “light” and “weightlessness”—qualities that epitomize these design icons.

    This spotlight highlights one work each month that is new to the collection and not currently on display.

    "Art Foundation at the Kunstmuseen Krefeld" has just been established

    The “Art Foundation at the Kunstmuseen Krefeld” was recently established. The foundation’s purpose is to independently support art, culture, and research at the Kunstmuseen Krefeld. Another key focus is the expansion of the collection. The foundation was initiated by Katia Baudin, director of the Kunstmuseen; the city of Krefeld and Mayor Frank Meyer welcome this development.

    Museums Without Borders: Until Augst 30 in Dunkirk

    Second part of the collection exchange between the twin cities of Dunkerque (Hauts-de-France) and Krefeld, featuring around 150 works from the collection of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld at the Frac Grand Large Hauts-de-France.

    An vier Samstagen lädt das KWM unter Leitung der Theaterplastikerin und Kunstvermittlerin Sina Müllender zu einem Keramikworkshop für Erwachsene ein. Das Angebot ist nur pauschal buchbar und für Anfänger:innen und Fortgeschrittene geeignet. Es werden Aufbautechniken sowie das Arbeiten mit verschienen Glasuren vermittelt. Die Materialien sind inklusive.

    Groß zu denken in der Kunst war für den niederländischen Künstler Johan Thorn Prikker kein Problem. Nein, es war sein Ding! Ob Wandbilder, Bilderzyklen im Raum oder riesige Glasfenster in Kirchen, Bahnhöfen oder Eingangsportalen, Thorn Prikker mochte es monumental. Beim KunstImPuls durchwandern wir diese Welt aus Farbe und Glas in vielen verschiedenen Führungen. Dabei treffen wir auch auf ein raumgreifendes Werk der britischen Künstlerin Emma Talbot, die nicht weniger universell denkt, uns sogar in den Weltraum entführt. Freuen Sie sich auf einen spannenden Disput zwischen dem längst verstorbenen Wegbereiter und einer wichtigen Stimme der zeitgenössischen Kunst. Im EntwurfsLabor im Studio 2 und in den Räumen der Vermittlung spinnen wir diesen Dialog kreativ fort. Vom einzelnen Ton bis zum mächtigen Klangkörper entfaltet sich schließlich auch die Musik beim Live Act im K+.
