Opening: April 28, 11.30 a.m.
Art, design, and industry come together in both Krefeld and Dunkirk on the French North Sea coast, which will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their town twinning in 2024. They are also the focus of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld and the FRAC Grand Large – Hauts-de-France, one of the Fonds régional d’art contemporain, which has been collecting contemporary art since 1982 and showing it in various locations in the region. In an exchange of collections, a selection of key works of international contemporary art and design from the FRAC collection will “move in” to the former residential buildings Haus Lange Haus Esters. Offsite projects in the urban space of Krefeld and in schools complement the exhibition and create surprising scenographies and participatory situations. The international dialog brings the former residential buildings designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe to life and highlights the importance of the dialog between the disciplines of art and design both inside and outside the museum.
An exhibition of works from the collection of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld in Dunkirk will follow in 2025.
