The main thrust of Martin Schwenk's work has revolved since the 1990s round reflections on nature as a screen for projecting our emotions, as a vestige of our society, and as the starting point for artistic work. Far from any scientific claims, the artist has created a marvellous cosmos of vegetation that appears to have no contact with the world. Every plant gains the character of an individual, whose origin and consistency remain however a puzzle.

Martin Schwenk has tackled the classical theme of 'nature' in a totally new way and come up with a topical version in which beauty and the mundane, virtuality and materiality, presence and evanescence intermingle in singular ways.

For the edition, which has been specially developed for Kunstmuseen Krefeld, Martin Schwenk has drawn fifteen watercolour. In this way, every sheet in the edition is a unique artwork.
