Under its director Paul Wember, the Kunstmuseen Krefeld developed a special profile in the early years of the Federal Republic by opening up to contemporary art. Initially still hostile, the (neo-)avant-garde was given museum backing here for the first time, unique in post-war Germany. Hans Dickel describes this extraordinary time from the perspective of a Krefeld contemporary witness in his new book Das Wunder von Krefeld. Avant-garde art in the museum (1955-1975). The author presents his book with numerous illustrations. The garden talk will be followed by a discussion about The Miracle of Krefeld between Hans Dickel, Tomma Galonska (artist and daughter of Paul Wember) and Sylvia Martin (Deputy Director of Kunstmuseen Krefeld).
