FREUNDE DER KUNSTMUSEEN KREFELD E.V.

On 3 July 1983 the Friends convened for their constitutional meeting. The central objective of the Freunde today consists in supporting the Kunstmuseen Krefeld in financial and non-material ways. By providing extra means, greater scope is opened for all the various aspects of the museums' creative work. The range of involvement not only includes the acquisition of artworks, but also help in the production of catalogues, the manufacture and distribution of editions and multiples, support in improving the infrastructure, arranging celebrations, running the museum shop, and much, much more.

The works that the Friends have acquired up to now for the collection number around 130, and include pieces by leading artists such as Carl André, Christian Boltanski, Rodney Graham, Bruce Nauman, Claes Oldenburg, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Thomas Ruff and Richard Serra, to name but a few. With their acquisitions, the Freunde clearly echo the concept behind the collecting activities at Kunstmuseen Krefeld: expanding historical and already documented approaches, and supporting young, promising artists.

Membership of the Freunde offers direct contact with art and artists. With exclusive pre-openings to the exhibitions, a personal programme of events and a wide variety of talks with like-minded people - membership gives new zest to the art lover's life.

The Friends of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld e.V. is an active member of the Bundesverband der Fördervereine Deutscher Museen für Bildende Kunst - the national association for museum support groups.
